Orange County Young Republicans

I was approached to design a new logo for the Orange County Young Republicans committee. They gave me their ideas of what they wanted to see with the logo (the red, white, and blue colors, the elephant logo) but gave me free range to do whatever I had wanted.

During the design, I played with the idea that the American flag would be used to form the letters for the committee with a silhouette of the elephant in the background. The initial design seemed to busy. I then tried the idea of it being inside the general shape of the county. Again it came out to busy.

I then tried to simplify the approach, using the red, white, and blue colors as more of borders and infills (trying to minimize the red because to much red can cannibalize an image of life). The end result was a much more conservative (which makes sense no?) image that felt appropriate without it being too boring.

Staring New, Starting Fresh

The most exciting moment in life, to me at least, is the moment before you start something new. Whether it is a new life with your significant lover, the first moment into parenthood, or countless other new moments; what stands out is the feeling of freshness. Not just freshness but the adrenaline rush of new adventure, the small amount of fear bubbling in your stomach.

I write this as the first foray into something new. Beginning my design "company" is both scary and freeing. Finally I have an outlet for what I do, not only as a designer but as a human being. My family has always said "put your imagination onto paper". So I have.

My name is Gilbert Ramirez Jr and I am a designer. Simple and straight to the point.
